Blog Tour | Book Review | Questions of Perspective by Daniel Maunz

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour of Questions of Perspective by Daniel Maunz! I have a review to share with you.

My Thoughts

Questions of Perspective Cover

This novel stood out as an uncategorizable story in the long line of romances and women’s fiction that I’ve been reading for a while.

Is this a book about finding your passion? Is it about faith and religion? Is it about philosophy or the question of free will?

I’d say it is a bit of all of these.

Such heavy topics are treated with a lightness of manner, even hilarity at times, although I don’t know if that was intentional.

There’s a cat hiking with a hippie for a year, having left his dead-end job as a litigator. His best friend attains Godhood one day, and gives him a peek into omniscience.

This causes him to undertake a journey of self-discovery, which leads him to become a teacher and meet a woman.

What happens next is a mind-bending mix of the application of free will, questions about God’s involvement in human lives, and the psychology of grief.

Nevertheless, it has a happily ever after ending so I’m not left distraught at the moroseness of it all.

I think this book demands several readings to be properly absorbed.

Plenty of quotable quotes:

“Nothing is worth doing if you have to give up even a fraction of your soul in the process.”

“Death is a part of life. You do not realize: I do not see you as you exist in this moment.”

Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for my ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Synopsis

No one knew it at the time, but April 19, 2011, was the most important day in the history of the world.

After his only friend and colleague, John Manta, disappears without a word, Dave Randall further entrenches himself in the humdrum life of an unenthusiastic lawyer. But once he begins to understand what happened, he embarks on a journey to uncover the deeper meanings and implications of John’s fate.

Accompanied by Peaches the cat, Dave uproots his life and reinvents himself in the midst of his search. Along the way, he is haunted by his piecemeal understanding of John’s fate and what it means for his existence. Little does Dave know, his journey of self-discovery will have ramifications that extend far beyond the borders of his own little life.
